PARTICLE EXPLOSION
Billions of charged solar particles slam into oxygen and nitrogen creating a mushroom cloud of northern lights. This particular formation was observed above the Ingraham Trail near Yellowknife, but it lasted just a few moments due to a fast-moving solar wind speed. Photo by James Pugsley.
